Why print worksheets at home?
Printing worksheets at home is one of the smartest decisions you can make for educational materials. The advantages are clear: immediately available, you print exactly as many sheets as you need, and you can tailor it to your child's needs (the same page four times if necessary). No waiting for shipping, no unnecessary waste.
The concerns usually relate to cost: ink, paper, printer maintenance. This article addresses exactly these — and shows you how to cut printing costs by 50-70% without sacrificing quality.
1. Economy mode (Draft): the simple baseline rule
Every inkjet printer has a "draft" or "economy" mode. This setting uses 30-50% less ink, and for children's worksheets the quality difference is barely noticeable.
How to enable: File → Print → Printer Preferences → Quality → Draft/Economy
One exception: if the worksheet contains light gray backgrounds or very thin lines, draft mode sometimes loses these. Check the preview before printing.
2. Black and white printing: when yes, when no?

Recycled 60-70 g/m² paper is cheaper and perfect for most worksheets. Available from office suppliers in 500-sheet reams. The only case when 80 g/m² is needed: if the child presses hard and pencil could "bleed through" the sheet.
Note: for sheets to be laminated, 80 g/m² is also better, because laminator heat and pressure can wrinkle thinner paper.
4. Print multiple pages per sheet (2-on-1)
Most printable worksheets display well at 2 pages per A4 sheet. This halves paper and ink cost. Practical when the child only works briefly on a task.

Warning: readability decreases with very small text. Check the preview first.
5. Lamination: the best long-term investment
This is the one investment we recommend to every parent who uses printable worksheets. A home laminator costs around €15-25; laminating pouches are roughly €0.15-0.25 per sheet.

6. Check the PDF before printing

7. "Fit to page" vs. "Actual size" — which to choose?
